Indian Wedding Invitation Wording: 20 Examples for Every Ceremony
Twenty ready to use Indian wedding invitation wordings, in English, Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi, for the wedding, Haldi, Mehndi, Sangeet, reception and more.
The design catches the eye, but the words carry the meaning. A wedding invitation's wording tells guests who is inviting them, how formal the occasion is, and how much they are wanted there. Get it right and elders nod with approval. Get it wrong and someone's Fua is on the phone asking why his name is missing.
Here are twenty Indian wedding invitation wording examples for every kind of ceremony and family, in English, Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi. Copy them, change the names, and adapt the tone to your family.
Before you start: the building blocks
Most Indian invitation wording contains the same elements, in roughly this order:
- A blessing or invocation
- Who is inviting: parents, both families or the couple
- The invitation itself
- The couple's names, with parents' names
- The occasion, date and venue
- A closing line
On a digital invitation, the date, time and venue usually sit on separate event cards, so the main wording can stay short and graceful.

Interfaith and intercommunity weddings
When two families from different communities come together, the wording can honour both. A few ideas:
"With the blessings of Shri Ganesh and Waheguru, the Mehta and Gill families joyfully invite you to celebrate the union of Janvi and Karanveer."
"Two families, two traditions, one celebration. Together with their families, Ayesha and Rohan invite you to their wedding."
For intercommunity weddings, many families also send two versions: one in each family's preferred language, with the same events and design.
Closing lines and RSVP requests
A graceful closing line finishes the invitation well. Some options:
- "Your presence will make our celebration complete."
- "We look forward to your blessings and good wishes."
- "Kindly confirm your presence by tapping RSVP by 25th November."
- "आपकी उपस्थिति हमारे लिए सौभाग्य होगी।"
- "આપની હાજરી અમારા માટે આનંદનો વિષય રહેશે."
- "आपली उपस्थिती आमच्यासाठी आनंददायी ठरेल."
Tips for writing your own wording
- Decide who is hosting. It shapes the whole sentence. Parents hosting means "invite you to the wedding of their son". Both families means "together with their families".
- Match the tone to the guests. Formal for elders, warm for friends. Two versions are fine.
- Check every name and title. Shri, Smt., Late, Chi., Sau. Ka. Ask an elder from each side to check.
- Keep it short. On a phone, three or four lines of main wording look best.
- Avoid exclamation marks on formal invitations. Save the excitement for function cards and friends' versions.
- Read it aloud. If it sounds awkward spoken, it will read awkwardly too.
Common wording mistakes
- Writing "Mrs. Neeta Mehta" when the family prefers "Smt. Neeta Mehta", or the reverse
- Forgetting late grandparents whose blessings the family wants to mention
- Mixing languages in one sentence on a formal invitation
- Using "RSVP" in a regional invitation without explaining it
- Copying a template that mentions rituals your family does not perform
Questions families ask us
Do you help with invitation wording?
Yes. Every template comes with suggested wording in its language, and we check spellings and titles in Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi and English before your invitation goes live.
Can I have the same wording in two languages?
Yes. Our Premium plan includes two language versions, each on its own link.
Should the wording mention gifts?
Many Marathi invitations include "Kripaya aaher aanu naye" (please do not bring gifts). Otherwise, it is usually best not to mention gifts in the main wording.
What is the difference between vinit and nimantrak?
Both introduce the inviting family. Vinit is common in Hindi invitations, while nimantrak is used in Gujarati and Marathi ones.
