How to Include Haldi, Mehndi, Sangeet and Wedding Events in One Digital Invitation

Each function has its own mood, dress code and guest list. Here is how to give Haldi, Mehndi, Sangeet and the wedding their own personality inside one digital invitation.

Haldi is messy and yellow. Mehndi is green, musical and slow. Sangeet is glamorous and loud. The wedding itself is sacred and formal. Four completely different moods, and somehow they all need to live on one invitation.

Many families solve this by listing them as four plain rows of date and time. That works, but it misses the fun. A well designed digital invitation can give each function its own little personality, while still keeping everything clear and organised. Here is how to include Haldi, Mehndi, Sangeet and wedding events in one digital invitation without it becoming confusing.

One invitation or separate ones?

First, decide whether one invitation is right for you. One invitation works best when:

  • Most guests are invited to most of the functions
  • You want guests to see the whole celebration in one place
  • You prefer one link to share and manage

Separate function invitations work better when:

  • Guest lists are very different for each function
  • Each function has a strong theme you want to show off
  • You want separate RSVP counts for each event

Many families combine both: one main invitation with all functions for close family, and separate function invitations or a shorter version for others. Our guide to organising multi day wedding invitations covers these options in depth. This post focuses on doing the single invitation beautifully.

Give each function its own card

Every function deserves a dedicated card with the same structure: name, date, time, venue, map button, calendar button and a short note. Consistency makes the schedule easy to scan. Then, within that consistent structure, add personality through three things: an icon, an accent colour and the note.

Haldi

Icon and colour

A turmeric bowl, marigolds or a splash of yellow. Accent colour: sunny yellow or marigold orange.

What to write

The Haldi is informal, so the note can be playful:

  • "It's going to get messy. Wear yellow, and something you don't mind turning yellow forever."
  • "Haldi at home, followed by lunch. Bring your best dance moves and your oldest kurta."

Practical details

Haldi is often at home in the morning. Add the home address with a landmark, and mention if lunch is served. Many families call it Pithi (Gujarati), Halad (Marathi), Maiyan (Punjabi) or Pellikuthuru (Telugu). Use the name your family uses, and add "Haldi" in brackets for friends from other communities.

Mehndi

Icon and colour

A mehndi cone, a henna hand or green leaves. Accent colour: mehendi green, olive or sage.

What to write

  • "Mehndi artists, chaat, dholki and lots of gossip. Green outfits encouraged."
  • "Come early if you want your mehndi done. The artists will be there from 4 pm."

Practical details

Mention if mehndi artists will be available for guests, the dress code and whether dinner is served. If it is a ladies only function, say so politely: "A ladies' Mehndi evening".

Sangeet

Icon and colour

A microphone, a dholak, a disco ball or dancing silhouettes. Accent colour: jewel tones like emerald, magenta or midnight blue with gold.

What to write

  • "Both families have been practising for weeks. Come ready to cheer, judge and dance."
  • "Performances begin at 8 pm sharp. The dance floor opens right after. Dinner served."

Practical details

Sangeet often runs late. Mention the start time and dinner. For Gujarati weddings, this may be a Garba or Dandiya night, so mention if dandiya sticks will be provided. See our Sangeet invitation designs.

The wedding

Icon and colour

A mandap, a kalash, the sacred fire or a pair of garlands. Accent colour: the main colour of your invitation, often maroon, red or gold.

What to write

The tone becomes more formal here:

  • "Baraat assembles at 6 pm at the hotel gate. Pheras at the auspicious muhurat of 9:15 pm. Dinner follows."
  • "Traditional attire requested."

Practical details

Separate the Baraat, the ceremony and the dinner if they have different times or locations. Make the muhurat very clear. See what to include in a Hindu wedding invitation for more.

The reception

If the reception is on the same invitation, give it an elegant card: a chandelier or champagne icon, a classic accent colour and a note like "Formal evening wear. Dinner and music." See our reception designs.

Keeping it organised

With five functions, organisation matters:

  • Chronological order: always list functions in the order they happen.
  • Day headings: group functions by day if the wedding spans several days.
  • Same card layout: personality comes from icons, colours and notes, not from changing the structure.
  • One main design: the overall invitation keeps one palette and font set. Function accents are small touches.

Wording for the main invitation line

When an invitation covers several functions, the main invitation line can reflect that:

"With the blessings of our elders, we invite you and your family to join us for the wedding celebrations of Harsh and Janvi, beginning with the Haldi on 10th December and culminating in the wedding on 12th December."

"Three days of colour, music and love. We would be honoured to celebrate every moment with you."

Explaining rituals for friends

If many friends from other communities are invited, a one line explanation on each card makes them feel included:

  • Haldi: "A joyful ritual where turmeric paste is applied to the couple for blessings and a glowing complexion."
  • Mehndi: "Intricate henna designs for the bride and guests, with music and food."
  • Sangeet: "An evening of music and dance where both families perform."

These small explanations turn curious guests into enthusiastic ones.

Dress codes at a glance

Guests love a quick dress code summary. You can add it as a note on each card, or as one short section after the events:

FunctionDress code
HaldiYellow, casual
MehndiGreen, festive casual
SangeetGlamorous Indian or Indo western
WeddingTraditional Indian
ReceptionFormal evening

Function notes in regional languages

If your invitation is in Hindi, Gujarati or Marathi, the function notes can be too. A few examples:

  • Hindi, Haldi: "पीले कपड़ों में आएँ और खूब मस्ती के लिए तैयार रहें।"
  • Gujarati, Pithi: "પીઠીના પ્રસંગે પીળા વસ્ત્રોમાં પધારશો."
  • Marathi, Halad: "हळदीच्या कार्यक्रमाला पिवळ्या पोशाखात यावे."
  • Hindi, Sangeet: "संगीत संध्या में दोनों परिवारों की प्रस्तुतियाँ होंगी। रात्रि भोजन साथ में।"

Short, friendly notes in the guest's own language make the invitation feel warm and complete.

Photos for each function

If you have photos that match each function, use them. A candid from your roka on the Mehndi card, a dance rehearsal photo on the Sangeet card, or a childhood photo on the Haldi card. Even one small photo per function makes the schedule feel personal. If you do not have function specific photos, the icons and accent colours do the job beautifully on their own.

Questions couples ask us

Will five functions make the invitation too long?

Not if each function has a compact, consistent card. Guests scroll through them easily, and the map and calendar buttons make each one useful.

Can I hide some functions from certain guests?

With one link, everyone sees the same events. To show different functions to different guests, create two versions or separate function invitations.

Can each function have its own music?

An invitation has one background track. If you want different music for each function, separate function invitations are the way to go.

Can I add the Garba night as a function?

Yes. Any function can be added with its own name, details and notes.
