How to Check Your Wedding Invitation Link Before Sending It to Guests

Names, dates, map pins, the link preview, RSVP, music and the phone your Nani uses. A complete checklist to run before your wedding invitation reaches a single guest.

Once your invitation link reaches the family WhatsApp group, there is no taking it back. Two hundred people have seen it. If Fua's name is misspelt, if the Sangeet date is wrong, if the map pin points to a different banquet hall, everyone knows. And somebody will screenshot it.

The fix is simple: a careful check before sending. This post is a complete checklist to check your wedding invitation link before sending it to guests. It takes about thirty minutes, and it is the best thirty minutes you will spend on your invitation.

Who should do the check

Do not check it alone. You have read your own names so many times that your eyes will skip mistakes. Gather:

  • The couple, for overall content and feel
  • One elder from each family, for names, titles and family lines
  • One detail oriented friend or cousin, for dates, times and links

Share the preview link with them in a small private group, and ask each person to check specific sections.

Part 1: Names and family details

  • Every name spelt exactly as the family prefers
  • Correct titles: Shri, Smt., Late or Swargiya, Chi., Chi. Sau. Ka., Sardar, Sardarni
  • Correct order of names in the family section
  • Late grandparents mentioned as the family wishes
  • Native place or city spelt correctly
  • Nicknames used only where intended

Read every name aloud to an elder. It is the fastest way to catch errors, especially in Gujarati, Hindi and Marathi.

Part 2: Dates and times

  • Every date matches the master schedule
  • The day of the week matches the date. This is the most common mistake we see.
  • Every time has am or pm
  • Late night events are clear, for example "1 am on the night of Saturday"
  • The muhurat is correct and clearly marked
  • The countdown points to the right date and time

Part 3: Venues and maps

  • Every venue name is correct
  • Every full address is correct
  • Tap every map button yourself and check where it lands
  • For venues with several halls or lawns, the specific space is mentioned
  • For home functions, a landmark is included

Map pins are the most dangerous mistake because guests use them on the day, often without double checking. A banquet with three branches in your city can easily be pinned to the wrong one.

Part 4: Language and wording

  • Shloka or blessing approved by elders
  • No spelling mistakes in English or regional text
  • Regional text displays correctly, with no broken characters
  • Tone is consistent throughout
  • Function notes and dress codes are correct
  • If you have two language versions, both say the same thing

Part 5: Photos and music

  • Photos are the ones you chose, in the right order
  • No photo is stretched, blurry or awkwardly cropped
  • Faces are not hidden behind text
  • Elders are comfortable with every photo
  • Music starts when you tap to open, not before
  • Music volume is pleasant, and the mute button works
  • The song is the right one, starting at the right point

Part 6: Interactive features

  • RSVP: once your invitation is live, submit a test reply and check that it appears in your dashboard. Make a note to exclude it from your final count.
  • Add to Calendar: tap it for one event and check the details in your calendar.
  • Contact buttons: tap to call and WhatsApp, and confirm they reach the right person.
  • Blessings wall: check that messages appear as expected.

Part 7: The link and its preview

  • Send the link to yourself on WhatsApp using "Message yourself"
  • Check that a preview appears with a sensible title and image
  • Check the link is short and clean
  • Tap it from WhatsApp and confirm it opens correctly
  • Try it from SMS and Instagram if you will use those too

Part 8: Different phones and networks

Your phone is probably newer and faster than many guests' phones. Test on:

  • An older Android phone, ideally a parent's
  • An iPhone, if you have access to one
  • Mobile data rather than WiFi
  • A small screen, to check nothing is cut off
  • Large text settings, which many elders use

Part 9: The final read through

Finally, read the entire invitation from top to bottom as if you were a guest who knows nothing about the wedding. Ask:

  • Do I know who is getting married?
  • Do I know who is inviting me?
  • Do I know when and where every function is?
  • Do I know what to wear?
  • Do I know how to reply?
  • Do I know whom to call if I have a question?

If the answer to every question is yes, you are ready to send.

Collecting changes efficiently

As your checkers find issues, collect every change into one single list before sending it to your designer. Most plans include a fixed number of revision rounds, and one round is one set of changes sent together. A combined list saves rounds and time. Small text fixes after delivery are always free with us.

What if you find a mistake after sending?

It happens. With an invitation website, the fix is simple: send us the correction, we update the invitation, and the same link shows the corrected version. If the mistake was important, such as a time or venue, send a short message to guests: "Small correction: the Sangeet is on Friday 11th, not Thursday. The invitation link has been updated."

This is one of the great advantages of a website over a PDF or video. Read 7 Common Digital Wedding Invitation Mistakes and How to Avoid Them for more.

Questions couples ask us

Do you check the invitation before it goes live?

Yes. We review spellings, especially in regional scripts, and check the details before activating your invitation. But no one knows your family names like your family does, so your own check remains essential.

Will my test RSVP count in my numbers?

It will appear in your list, so remember to exclude it when you calculate your final numbers.

Can I share the preview with family before it goes live?

Yes. Share the preview link privately with the people checking it.

How long does the check take?

About thirty minutes with three or four people checking different sections.
